Experience a life of prayer as an ‘Alongsider’
It is possible for men and women, married or single, to experience the contemplative life by living alongside the community and sharing in our work and prayer for periods longer than the usual guest stay. This has proved a very creative and worthwhile experience for many people.
“Alongsiders” may be young people coming here between completing their education and starting a job, but may also be older people seeking to enrich their spiritual lives, needing space to discern their way forward, or space to reflect on what has been happening in their lives. The length of stay has varied between six weeks and a year.
If you would like to know more about this do contact the Reverend Mother at Tymawr Convent, Lydart, Monmouth NP25 4RN or E–mail: [email protected]

Come and See
If you would like to visit us or to come for a quiet day, or longer, you would be very welcome. Please contact us to arrange a convenient time.
The Chapel
Our Chapel is always open for prayer and we have services five times a day including the Eucharist each day at noon and Evening Prayer at 5:15pm. However times may vary on major feast days especially during Holy Week, Easter and Christmas. We welcome people from all denominations and those who are simply seeking to widen their ‘spiritual horizons.’
Our purpose is to pray, and to offer an environment of prayer and hospitality to guests, visitors, those on retreat, parishes and clergy.
The Tymawr Community is at the centre of the family of The Society of the Sacred Cross – people who link in with our life through prayer, work and mutual support. Some commit to a personal rule of life to form a structure for a life of prayer in their own circumstances.
Our own dedication to a life of prayer includes praying for others and supporting the ministry of other Christians.
